Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a dental specialty which involves a variety of maxillofacial surgical procedures that includes treating diseases in and around the face, fixation of injuries that occur to the face during accidents, fall or other causes and correct defects in the face, jaw or mouth. The procedures may be minor or major that can help to reduce pain, fix deformities and restore function and aesthetics.
The Department operates as two units, one at Govt. Dental college and the other at Govt. Medical College OP Block, Thrissur.
The Dental college unit principally is concerned with academics of dental students, teeth removal and other minor surgical procedures.
The Dental OP unit in Room No. 16 of Govt. Medical college handles emergencies, admissions, ward consultations and in-patient care. It also deals with trauma, minor and major surgical procedures, medically compromised patient care and 24x7 casualty services.
